The Perfect Derma Chemical Peel is a medium-depth peel designed to improve skin tone, texture, and clarity by targeting both the epidermis and upper dermis. It’s an ideal option for those who want more dramatic skin rejuvenation than a superficial peel can offer.
How Chemical Peels Work
Chemical peels are a blend of specific ingredients that trigger a controlled skin shedding process and stimulate exfoliation, similar to the peeling that happens after a sunburn. This accelerates the process cell turnover, removing old and damaged skin cells and encouraging new, healthy skin cells to rise to the surface. The Perfect Derma Peel penetrates deeper than light peels like glycolic or lactic acid peels, making it effective for treating hyperpigmentation, acne scars, fine lines, and uneven texture.
Key Ingredients & Their Benefits
The effectiveness of the Perfect Derma Peel comes from its special blend of medical-grade ingredients and is the only medical grade chemical peel that includes Glutathione- a powerful anti-aging antioxidant.
- TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid): Promotes deep exfoliation and smooths rough texture.
- Retinoic Acid: Speeds up cell turnover and boosts collagen production.
- Salicylic Acid: Unclogs pores and helps treat acne.
- Kojic Acid: Lightens dark spots and melasma.
- Phenol: Numbing agent and enhances penetration of other ingredients (this is the ingredient that smells bad. Sorry 🙁 )
- Vitamin C: Antioxidant that stimulates collagen production
- Glutathione: A potent antioxidant and skin brightener.
How to Prepare for your Chemical Peel
For 5 days before your peel it is important to discontinue use of active skin care ingredients. Things like retinoids: (retinol, retinaldehyde, retinoic acid, Retin-A (Rx), tretinoin (Rx), Adapalene, Accutane (Rx), and Tazorac (Rx). If it is your first peel experience I also recommend stopping other “active” ingredients like Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide; and exfoliating ingredients like Glycolic acid, Lactic acid, Mandelic acid, and even Vitamin C. Basically, stick to a very basic skin cleanser and moisturizer.
What to Expect During the Treatment
The application of The Perfect Derma Peel is pretty straightforward and takes around 30 minutes:
1. Arrive with a clean face: Skip the makeup today. Makeup and other products affect the way the peel penetrates, and even though your doctor will clean and prep your skin, it’s helpful to come with a bare face. Next a degreaser (Acetone) will be applied. This step smells bad, but ensures that the skin is squeaky clean and allows the peel to penetrate the skin evenly.
2. During the Procedure: The peel solution is applied evenly to the skin in layers. In the beginning you may feel a mild stinging sensation, but it subsides quickly. Immediately after the peel is applied your skin will have a mild orange hue. This is simply the color of the chemicals and will wash off later. (This step is also very smelly. Bear with me, it’ll be worth it.)
3. Post-Peel Care and Healing Timeline: You will receive an After Care Kit with specific instructions, lotion, and sunscreen to use for the next 7-10 days. Peeling begins within 2–3 days after the treatment. During the peeling process old skin flakes off, revealing fresh, healthy skin underneath. The peeling process typically lasts 5-8 days, (but may last up to 10). During this time it is very important to use the included moisturizer and sunscreen, and to avoid sun exposure. It is also very important to leave the skin alone: picking or peeling at the skin can cause more harm than good. Protecting your skin from irritation during the exfoliation process is essential, so avoid all harsh products, AHAs, and retinols (like above). You should also avoid hot water, scrubbing, and your Clarisonic brush, or other facial scrubbing brushes.
