How Does it Work?
The neurotransmitter Acetylcholine (ACh) activates Nicotinic receptors which causes muscles to contract.
Neuromodulators prevent ACh from being released from the nerve, therefore the muscle does not get the message to contract and stays relaxed. The effects of neuromodulator treatment wear off as new nerve endings grow.
Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Daxxify all work the same; they all block the chemical signals that tell a muscle to contract, temporarily “paralyzing” the muscle, and you’re left with a very smooth forehead. To take a deep dive into how neuromodulators work check out this blog article.
Any treatment that utilizes needle injections carries a risk of bruising and bleeding. If you are seeking treatment before a special occasion, please schedule an appointment at least 2-3 weeks before the occasion.
Achieving an ageless face takes time. BOTOX® treatment is not a one-and-done procedure, and requires regular appointments to maintain results. The key to natural aesthetics is gradual progression. I will know I’ve done a good job when no one can tell you’ve had “work done”.

Wrinkle Reducer FAQ
Neuromodulators have been the #1 injectable cosmetic treatment for many years. Botox has been in use for almost 20 years. BOTOX® (and it’s sister products) are made from botulinum toxin A and is FDA approved for medical and cosmetic use. You will not get botulinum poisoning when administered by a medical professional for medical and cosmetic use.
The amount of muscle relaxation is dependent on the dose. Dr. Christina prides herself on maintaining a natural appearance. Using just the right amount, her patients are still able to make facial expressions, but also get the wrinkle reducing benefits. Of course, if you want the “full-freeze” effect, we can achieve that as well using higher doses.
You will feel a small needle prick with each injection, but many patients say the treatment is so fast they don’t even notice.
You will gradually experience reduced muscle movement over a few days, with full effect after about 1-2 weeks.
If you’re unhappy with your results I am happy to see you for a follow up appointment after waiting a full 2 weeks after your injection. Sometimes “touch-ups” are necessary to achieve the desired results. If you’re a new-to-me patient I will inject conservatively: this means I may inject a smaller amount than you’ve received in the past so you may still have more muscle movement that you’ve had in the past. If that’s the case, we can always add more BOTOX®, but you can never take away what has already been injected.
The effects last about 3-4 months. After 3-4 months you will start to regain muscle movement. If you do not get a repeat treatment at this time, then the wrinkles and fine lines will return.
The most common side effect patient’s experience is bruising. Any time a needle is used there is a risk of bleeding and bruising. Some more serious complications and side effects are headache, droopy eyelid or cockeyed eyebrows, crooked smile, allergic reactions, and eye problems like double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, or dry eyes. However, in clinical studies the incidence of these side effects is very small, and all of these side effects will resolve with time as the effects of the product naturally wear off.
